Ahead of their Class

Now a days many people depend on the larger fashion houses for the direction of fashion. While younger street kids often put a spin on trends and make it their own, sometimes you can find the most interesting things if you just glance in the opposite direction. We have long looked to the older woman and admired her vintage elegance and timeless sense of style. Rarely do we ever expect to find her sporting trends that are on the pulse of fashion when actually she is the woman that major fashion houses try to recreate. In my recent travels I have seen the most amazing wedge caps and top hats on these women. As these hats make there way back into the front line of everyday street fashion we will borrow a page from the timeless book of these ladies in hopes to look only half as graceful.

The Reign of the Skinny

Skinny denim is much like a cell phone...what did you do before it??? While they have been around since the dawn of time and most popularized with punks and rockers the hipsters have made them the new staple pant. While most rockers feel like this is just a fashion trend of the masses that will soon pass, alot of trendsters feel quite the contrary. "Bootcut days are over...the skinny allows us to show off our footwear" says one scenester. Either way there are still brands like Lip Service and KillCity that remain loyal to the orginal punk rocker. But as each hispter searchs to look different and less mainstream than the next they are already turning from brands like CheapMondays and Silence&Noise to the more alternative punkrock labels. I look forward to the day that I see a middle american soccer mom in a pair of Stretch F**K'N Jeans!!!!

The Fashion Pack

After a long shopping excursion at the fleamarkets in Paris I found myself with an arm full of clothes, a full kart, and a long walk back to the hotel. As I searched for a large sac in which to transport my goods I came across the military backpack. Normally backpacks are not high on my list of fashion priorities but in a necessary situation what was a girl to do? 15 euros later we headed home with a stuffed vintage military sac that actually turned out to be quite the fashion peice. Now back in NY I find myself clutching my sac as I head out to the grocery, markets, or even if I'm just trucking around in Brooklyn. I've noticed some really cool ones that put a modern edge on the old classic. Check out these two from Fatigues Army Navy & Surplus For women paired with a ultra feminine or sleek outfit it can really toughen up the look. And for the guys who are sporting the vintage military sac...oh my!

Peep this

Since "Geek Chic" continues to be the look of the season, fashion eyewear has become a popular accessory that is almost as necessary as wearing earrings, socks, or any other peice that helps to complete the look. As we travel around more and more people are sporting optics for style instead of vision. I snagged a pair of cat eye Dr. Peepers at a rockabilly store on my recent trip to Lisbon. For the amount of comments that I have recieved, it was a 8.75 euros well spent!

Vous aimer mon chausseurs?

This seasons game of footwear is not one for the intermediate. Printed socks and pointy toe menswear flats give a dramatic appeal to feminine silhouettes. Brands like S***R London offer a awesome mix of crazy colored pointy toe shoes that are a mix between mens dress and sneakers. Lace up shoes of any heel size with tight drainpipe denim makes for a sophisicated look that takes the skinny jean from punkrock to victorian chic. Repettos are becoming the new basic. Military inspired boots can be effortlessly thrown over even your worst tracksuit (however if you are still sporting a track suit then you have bigger problems than what shoes to wear!!!) and still achieve a striking look. Patent and bright floresent leather gives a new punch to the old and ordinary and work well for both men and women. Funky printed and denim sneakers are always fun and give street credibility to ultra girly or simple outfits.

The Hunter has been hunted

What a pleasure to bump into the Facehunter in Soho (at Starbucks of all places.) As I look down at my outfit I think to myself, thank God i am not sporting my "I'm running late" look today. We chat briefly about Paris and New York and exchange photos of some for our recent street style conquests. Of course I posed for the "oh so famous" Face Hunter blog diaries
As we part and he kisses my hand goodbye and I hope to see my fashion hunter again soon. Hopefully we will meet again for a coffee in Paris...definatley not at Starbucks.

The Rise of the Super Slouchy

So about 2 years ago I was crusing through what was soon the become one of my favorite shops in Paris, Kiliwatch. It was here that scooped up my very first awesome pair of vintage slouch crotch pants. Back in New York I defiantley recieved some weird looks as I knocked about in my new favorite pants. Over the past two years I have seen them around, even popping up on racks like Urban Outfitters (to quite my surprise), and on a few fashionistas scattered throughout. But never have I seen them in such an abundance as my recent visit to Paris where it seems like every girl was wearing a variation of this pant. Its has definatley become the European fashion uniform.
